The Regent Park athletic grounds had their grand opening in the summer of 2016 and since then have become the absolute heart and soul of the community. Created with financial contributions from organizations such as MLSE, Hockey Canada, Under Armour, Canadian Tire Jumpstart and others. The grounds are located at 480 Shuter Street, and provide room for a wide range of activities rarely found in Downtown Toronto. It’s no surprise that residents and visitors take advantage of this neighbourhood amenity on a daily basis. In today’s blog we are going to explore the entire range of summer activities that take place on and off the pitch.

The most obvious and largest component of the athletic grounds is the turf soccer field. Mainly used for its intended purpose but also at times for other sports activities. There is always an option to come and kick the ball around solo or join multiple pickup games that usually take place in the evenings – after 6pm or on Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you’re in search of organized sports, various child, youth and adult programs for different age groups can be found and enrolled into at this link – https://www.toronto.ca/data/parks/prd/facilities/complex/419/index.html. These programs consist of ball/floor hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball, lacrosse and multi-sport. It may also be possible to book the entire field for a friendly game or a practice. The outdoor hockey rink, which is located at the South West corner of the grounds gets a ton of action regardless of the season. For all the summer or winter activities taking place on the hockey rink please visit www.regentparkhockey.ca. Pickle ball is a regular activity that takes place inside the hockey rink as well as ball/floor hockey games. Basketball court is always busy at the athletic grounds. There is a total of 6 basketball hoops, and if you’re interested in shooting around solo it is best to come in the first half of the day. If you’re interested in a pickup game, there are regular half court and full court pickup games in the evenings.

The ping pong table which is located at the at the North East corner of the grounds also gets used frequently as long as the weather is cooperating and it’s not too windy. Needless to say, the running track is always available for those of you that want to work on your cardio. It is also common to see various private boot camps and outdoor fitness classes take place at the athletic grounds either early in the mornings or in the evenings after work. We encourage you to approach some of the trainers directly and inquire regarding joining a class if this is something that you‘re interested in.
Lastly, it is important to note that this outdoor facility also features night lighting, allowing sports activities to continue well after sunset, up until 11pm.
